Review:

Review: It Seemed Important at the Time: A Romance Memoir

صورة
It Seemed Important at the Time: A Romance Memoir by Gloria Vanderbilt My rating: 1 of 5 stars it is really hard for me to give a book 1 star, but this book just missed the mark. Writing style is not for my taste as she constantly takes readers out of the story to ask them a question. It's annoying, don't YOU think? While this was supposed to be a romantic essay, I thought she came off more whore-y than anything else. Talking endlessly about her love-ahs including men that were married, and in her youth some curious girls. Mostly I just thought is she out of her MIND to think that most women can relate to these stories? Dates where she is whisked off to far lands. She pretends that being GLORIA VANDERBILT and all her glory and money is nothing special, but I'll tell you something Gloria Vanderbilt, Not a lot of woman get asked as a first date to Paris. I think she was trying to be chummy and coy with all the silly 'don't you agree...

Review: Running Out of Time

Running Out of Time by Margaret Peterson Haddix My rating: 3 of 5 stars Some people might want to compare this to a certain movie but the book came first and as always the book is better. I love person out of time stories. It is so interesting to see modern society from a new perspective and to realize how marvelous it really is. Jessie a young girl who think she is living in 1840 gets a wake up call after diphtheria strikes her small village. It is 1996 and every one in Clifton is a prisoner, not allowed to leave of get proper medical care. Jessie's mother asks her to escape and get help. Jessie finds our modern ways confusing but she quickly adapts. However no one prepared her for the conspiracy that she uncovers. The best part of this book was how the thirteen year old protagonist overcomes our societies unwillingness to believe children and finally gets help for the diphtheria epidemic plaguing her village.
